We are supporting an innovative industrial project in Sweden, encompassing several key areas: advanced manufacturing, materials processing, site infrastructure, and utilities.

As the Area Construction Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Construction Management for this significant project. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the successful completion of all construction management activities and deliverables within the approved safety, schedule, cost, and quality criteria for one of the project’s main areas. This role requires detailed daily and weekly construction work planning and the execution of activities necessary to achieve the project’s goals according to best practices in construction project management.

In addition to managing the construction of one of the main areas, you will also contribute to the organization’s ability to execute large-scale projects on a global scale. You will be recognized as an expert in construction management within your area and will develop your cross-functional team accordingly. To optimize the site construction effort, you will work in a matrix structure in close cooperation with other functions such as Site Execution, Project Management, Project Controls, and Engineering.

This role is site-based in Sweden.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure construction teams and contractors perform exceptionally in terms of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS).
  • Adhere to and enforce EHS policies and procedures within your construction area.
  • Ensure all personnel and contractors are properly inducted and aware of workplace rules and procedures.
  • Identify, coordinate, and manage EHS interfaces between different construction areas, contractors, and trades.
  • Monitor and control the approved construction scope and deliverables within your area, including Management of Change (MoC).
  • Oversee the construction schedule, as well as direct and indirect construction field costs, in line with approved baselines for your area.
  • Ensure sufficient work fronts are available for progress according to schedule.
  • Ensure contractors’ installation work packages (IWPs) are free of constraints.
  • Manage work front planning and constraint-free contractor installation work packages, ensuring work is clearly defined, safe, properly sequenced, and achievable within the allotted timeframes.
  • Monitor and control construction quality according to approved performance metrics, working closely with the Quality Management team.
  • Manage resource levels (people, equipment, materials) of contractors according to contractual and schedule requirements.
  • Ensure the timely ordering, tracking, and delivery of equipment and materials to contractors, in collaboration with the Site Logistics team.
  • Monitor and control the implementation of construction risk management, including risk identification, treatment plans, and updates to the construction risk register.
  • Compile and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly construction performance analyses and progress reports.
  • Ensure all construction progress tracking and information tools are used, maintained, and updated.
  • Manage the generation and distribution of construction execution information to the Site Execution Management Team.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with standardized construction management procedures.
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing clear direction, role expectations, and appropriate training.
  • Periodically assess the performance of direct reports and prepare corrective or development plans.
  • Identify construction interfaces and support the Construction Interface Manager.
  • Build and maintain healthy relationships within the construction and cross-functional teams, resolving conflicts as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 20 years of industry experience, with at least 15 years of hands-on project leadership experience in demanding industrial environments such as manufacturing, mining, or similar fields.
  • Relevant formal education and trade certifications, with a proven track record in managing complex projects in construction execution.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience working on an owner’s team and in a multi-cultural environment is a plus.
